The Castle's Keep

Courts of kingdoms always hide secrets, be they from other members of the court or foreign nations. Though noble houses band together, sometimes they are kept that way only to plot against one another

A Thousand Lies Before He Dies Empty

Any Royal Court was considered to be the center of any Kingdom, where the massive amounts of gossip were told, and rumors were suspected and made. It would be considered unwise to make enemies there, for there were those that would stab you as soon as your back was turned. It is in the Royal Court that the Kingdom's Monarch demonstrated his or her power with grand banquets and ceremonies, collected taxes, settled disputes, and made laws. Yet, there always seemed to be more to it than just that. Most Monarchs thought they had absolute power to rule over their subjects, given to them by God; That wasn't the case in some situations. Yet, letting people believe what they wanted to believe was easiest.

As the bitter winds sweep the dead leaves soaring in circles throughout the sky, a cold wave of snow and rain summons forth the dawn of Winter. The newly renovated Falconer Tavern and Kingsgate Inn are a popular place to keep warm with fellow Luminiegians, for God knows they hate the cold, and the many other travelers whose paths lead them to the Kingdom of Luminiege. Monsieur Micheal's Brothel, Mizanin's, as always, is geared up to offer their fair share of warmth. The battle of religious superiority rages on. On one hand, they believe in spreading the ancient religion of the old Gods, Torb and Marwoleath, the god of the hunt and the goddess of death, as they have been for ages. On the other, the opposing move to claim over all souls and command the obedience of those who follow their beliefs. With King Bennett's Army still in half disarray from the late King's death, the pursuit of new Knights and Rangers had never been more in demand, as Winter is sure to bring about time of great peril. What would be considered summertime for the other Royal Kingdoms, the Winter chill remained in Luminiege, yet did not seem as brutal as the true Winter season. Royal Court had been no less of a struggle, as accusations fly, demands made, and conflict stirs. Thievery and deceit are in high supply and the days have only just begun to grow darker. What will come when winter is fully upon us?

Gabriel pondered his latest thoughts as he sat among a bay window of the Luminiege Castle library, small black book in tow that he found time to write his thoughts down, here and there. But now, he had no idea how his thoughts had turned to such manners, and the chill coming off of the window made a shiver erupt down his spine. Winter would be in Luminiege soon, and that meant the frost would turn for the worst and become brutal enough to freeze someone to death slowly if they were caught outside. It was sad really. How the land refused to accept the throne being tossed to Stuart Bennett in all his dark glory. He seemed like a dark and foreboding man, never quite knowing how things would turn out for him. He couldn't have predicted the way Luminiege turned from a beautiful and glorious Kingdom, to a barren frost-filled wasteland.

Gabriel didn't seem to mind in the least, though. The kings business was just that, not his. But to escape the hustle and bustle of Court life which surprisingly remained after Stuart ascended the throne, Gabriel always found himself wandering to the silent solitude of the library's confines. He enjoyed the silence. Gave him time to think of the day's passing, and all the events that occurred in Court. It was quite humorous how rumors spread like the worst of plagues, but never once had he heard one about himself. He was sure people did talk about him, for people love to talk, yet he had never heard one single word spoken against him in a dishonorable way. It was irritating, yet safe. Rumors led to lies being believed, which could ultimately lead to your death.

Sighing, Gabriel returned to writing in his little black book with a lop-sided smile.
